The Exploring Duo Complete Their Atlantic Row Training

The Exploring Duo have reached another major milestone in their preparations for the world’s toughest row, completing an impressive 130 hours of specialist training on the water.

This surpasses the minimum requirement of 120 hours and includes more than 24 hours of night-time rowing. Training in darkness has given the pair valuable experience of navigating, managing fatigue and maintaining their rowing routine when visibility is limited.

Taking on the Isle of Wight

One of their biggest training challenges so far was a full circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight, completed in an impressive 21 hours.

The route required careful planning, particularly around the tides and the notoriously tricky waters surrounding the island. Timing was crucial to ensure they could safely complete the entire journey.

During the challenge, the pair rowed together for 11 hours, taking only short breaks to reapply sun cream, eat and drink. It was a demanding test of their fitness, endurance and ability to work together for extended periods, all essential skills for the Atlantic crossing ahead.

Staying Clean and Comfortable at Sea

Maintaining good hygiene during long training sessions is vital. Salt water, sweat and repeated movement can quickly lead to discomfort, sores and an increased risk of infection.

At every shift change, The Exploring Duo used Koala Wipes® to clean and refresh themselves before resting or returning to the oars. With limited access to fresh water onboard, our wipes provided a simple and convenient way to maintain personal hygiene throughout both daytime and overnight training.

The Next Stage of the Journey

With all their required training hours now complete, attention is turning to the next major milestone: preparing the boat and equipment for shipping in October.

Every piece of equipment must be carefully checked, organised and packed before the boat begins its journey to the starting line. From safety equipment and navigation systems to food, clothing and personal hygiene supplies, everything onboard must earn its place.

The Exploring Duo are set to begin their Atlantic challenge in December, taking on approximately 3,000 miles of open ocean in one of the most physically and mentally demanding rowing events in the world.
